Must Read Monday #4
December 12, 2011 § 3 Comments
The goal of the Must Read Monday is to find share your love of great books with others in the hopes that they’ll add a new title to their To Be Read list.
Your job is to create intrigue for other hoppers. What makes your book so swoon-worthy? What do you absolutely have to mention so they’ll read it?
On your post, you’ll make an acrostic puzzle (think of it as an overview/book blurb type of thing).
It’s all about powers of persuasion, people:) You might have to think a little, but channel that inner-creative goddess (or god).
This week’s theme is A book that you’re thankful someone recommended to you.
His parents were brutally murdered, he
Arrived on his relatives doorstep, unwelcome and unwanted
Rejected and bullied by his family
Refused the friendship and affection he craved
Youth was not a simple thing
Prayers were answered with a simple letter
Opening up a whole new world never imagined
True friendship and a sense of belonging
The home he never thought to find
Evil fails to destroy him
Reaffirming that love is the most powerful magic
I had to choose Harry Potter for this theme because I had absolutely no interest in reading this series until a friend of mine basically bullied me into it. This was shortly after the first movie was released, and I thought it was cute, but I couldn’t see where it would interest me, an adult. How wrong I was. I have since re-read this series more times than I can count. It speaks to the place inside so many of us that wants to believe in magic, that wants to believe that there is a school like Hogwarts, a magical town like Hogsmeade, and of course Diagon Alley. Its such a beautiful story of friendship, love, and yes, magic, that I couldn’t help but fall in love with it. I don’t think I’ve ever told my friend how much those books have come to mean to me and how truly grateful I am to her for recommending them to me. This is a young adult series, true, but I believe the story is timeless and ageless.
What book are you thankful that someone recommended to you?
