Waiting on Wednesday
October 19, 2011 §
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week I’m waiting on:
Fresh from the success of The Way of Kings, Brandon Sanderson, best known for completing Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time®, takes a break to return to the world of the bestselling Mistborn series.
Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds.
Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history—or religion. Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice.
I’m much more fond of the cover on the right, but lets be honest here, even if the cover featured a monkey in a chicken suit I would still be bananas about this upcoming release! I’ve already pre-ordered my signed copy of this 4th book in Sanderson’s incredible Mistborn series.
If you’re not familiar with Mistborn, it is an amazing fantasy series that kind of combines High Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Dystopian all in one big bunch of AWESOME! And Vin is one of my top five favorite kick ass heroines in any fantasy novel.
ANYWAY… I’m just a little excited about this release. Alloy of Law is expected to be published November 8th by Tor.
Another upcoming release I’m anxiously awaiting is
A YA Urban Fantasy/Romance in a world a breath away from our own. Similar in tone to Tithe and Unleashed, Lightbringer tiptoes down the line between love and horror as an independent young woman discovers herself and the darkest parts of the afterlife.
Ok, that short description included several key words, Tithe, horror, and afterlife. I’m not sure how the author managed to inspire those three words to describe her book, but I’m certainly intrigued! Plus that cover is satisfyingly spooky, isn’t it? Is that a bird skeleton chandelier? Apparently in the afterlife, there are some odd light fixture choices. But regardless, I’m sold! I can’t wait to read this! Lightbringer is expected to be published November 15 by PYR
